Is it adequate to wash your hair every day? This is a real question, especially for women, as opinions are changing regarding the methods adopted when you take care of your hair.

Why wash your hair?

Hair washing deserves a scientific clarification. The sebaceous glands located at the root of the hair naturally produce sebum that accumulates on the scalp and hair. The optimal level of sebum is maintained with a regular shampoo stroke that will cleanse the lengths and the scalp. The shampoo contains a mixture of surfactants that removes impurities from the scalp and hair on contact with water.

Be careful, because washing your hair too much leads to a risk of dryness and dehydration which causes itching. The production of sebum is a natural protection for hair and scalp, so preventing it from forming by washing every day is harmful to your hair and the health of your scalp. How often you wash your hair depends on the type of hair you have.

How often should I wash my hair?

If you have normal hair, these are the easiest types to care for. They do not have any particular problems and 2 strokes of shampoo per week is enough. However, moisturize it from time to time to keep it healthy with a moisturizer.

If you have dry hair, then hydration is your ally. Opt for a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner twice a week. After washing your hair, maintain hydration with nourishing care products such as a mask and oil.

If your hair is frizzy, it tends to be dry. Your scalp does not produce the necessary sebum. Opt for a once-a-week wash, apply all moisture care products after each wash and maintain hydration as much as possible during the days with oil or spray with moisturizing products until the next wash.

If you have oily hair, your hair produces a lot of sebum, so frequent washing is fine, up to 3 times a week or even every day if you want. The recommended shampoos are herbal shampoos that completely cleanse the leather.

Are there any alternatives for washing your hair less?

Co-wash is recommended for all hair types to avoid using shampoo on a daily basis by replacing it with a conditioner. It is less aggressive and does not clean deep down, thus maintaining the hydration of the hair.

To change the shampoo, there are alternatives such as dry shampoos. However, this option does not really wash the hair, but avoids aggression and maintains the moisture in the hair. A touch between 2 shampoos is enough.

There is also the no-poo option, which means not using any washing product, but baking soda. The latter cleanses the hair thoroughly. Apply it with cider vinegar to maintain the shine of the hair then rinse with water and that’s it.
